Sony has launched WF-1000XM4, their latest true-wireless earbuds under the renowned 1000X series of noise-cancelling enabled in-ear headphones. They are lighter and smaller than their predecessor and feature a new design.
Sony WF-1000XM4 features
The earbuds come with a couple of microphones (in different directions) for each ear to recognise the surrounding noise, which is analyzed by Sony’s Integrated Processor P1. The 6mm driver unit comes with an increased magnet volume and generates a signal to cancel the noise. They connect to the source device over Bluetooth 5.2. The processor ensures that the connection is stable and less latency to avoid lags.
They weigh just 41g. The earbuds and the charging case are both smaller in size when compared to their predecessor. The tips are made from a unique foam material. The company claims a battery capacity of eight hours per charge, and the case adds another 16 hours. Fast charging is supported, and a five-minute charge can provide an hour of usage.
The WF-1000XM4 are sensitive to touch, allowing the wearer to activate noise cancellation, adjust volume, control playback, and take calls. Adaptive Sound Control adapts the sound profile based on the location or activity being performed. They are IPX4 water-resistant.
Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair are supported for quickly connecting to hardware running Android and Windows 10 operating systems. High-resolution audio streaming is supported via the LDAC codec. The built-in AI sound enhancement engine can improve the quality of compressed digital audio in real-time.
The earbuds come with the Speak-to-Chat feature, which automatically pauses playback and allows ambient sound to seep in as soon as the wearer begins a conversation. This is achieved by the onboard microphones and other sensors in combination with audio signal processing. A special mode to suppress the wind noise is also integrated. Virtual assistants like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa are on board.
Quoting Daisuke Kawaguchi, Vice President of Home Entertainment & Sound, Sony Electronics Inc.,
“Sony’s 1000X series features the best noise canceling in the industry, and these headphones have raised that bar even higher. Sony has been revolutionizing the personal listening experience since pioneering the iconic Walkman in 1979 and introducing the world’s first in-ear model back in 1982. Our talented team has studied and perfected sound, noise canceling performance and call quality over the last several decades, and the WF-1000XM4 headphones are a direct result of those extensive efforts.”
