Apart from making overall a well-packaged device, OnePlus has also mastered the art of generating just the right amount of hype about their upcoming smartphones. Thanks to the value for money proposition offered by their phones, rumor mills keep churning out leaks after leaks, one such was recently rebutted by Carl Pei on twitter. While the company has already announced their 2018 flagship OnePlus 6 launch date and officials have confirmed that the phone will indeed have an iPhone X like notch.
OnePlus 6 will be unveiled globally on 16th May and is set to be launched in India on 17th May in Mumbai.
Updated on 7th May
In the recent updates, we know that the upcoming flagship from OnePlus will have a glass back and this adds to the speculation that OnePlus 6 will have wireless charging facility. Since metal is not considered conducive for wireless charging, major brands like Apple, Samsung use glass back panels for their flagship devices.
While Qualcomm has already worked out a technology that makes wireless charging work with an all-metal back panel, we are yet to see a commercial implementation.
Apart from this let’s see what all we already know about the OnePlus flagship for 2018.
OnePlus 6 Specifications
Well, first of all, let’s talk about the specifications of the phone. From various leaks and official updates we already know quite a bit about what will be present under the hood.

The official invite shared by OnePlus confirmes that there will be an 8GB RAM variant with 256GB internal storage while the 64 GB variant may be dumped this time around.
OnePlus 6 Release Date
As officially announced, Oneplus 6 launch date is set for 5th May 2018. This doesn’t fall in line with the previous launches. It is rumored that the OnePlus 6 launch has been preponed because of the number of phones launching globally with all sporting a notch and almost the same overall design.
Also, OnePlus 5T has run out of stock in a lot of markets including the US and the company needs to launch a phone in order to replace it asap.
OnePlus 6 Price
One of the key reason why OnePlus phones sold like hotcakes is the price. While the price of OnePlus phones has steadily increased, OnePlus may well be set to launch its costliest phones yet.
There are a few leaks that suggest that price of OnePlus 6 may be priced at $520-$570 for the 64GB variant. The 128 GB is said to be priced between $600 to $660. The OnePlus 6 Premium version with 256GB of internal storage will be priced around $690 to $750.
The increase in price is somewhat understandable because of a constant increase in the price of components however this may be slightly too steep for the fans liking. For the comparison though, OnePlus 5T was launched at $499.
OnePlus 6 Price In India
India is a very price sensitive market. We have come across a leak that suggests that there will be indeed 3 variants of the upcoming phone and it also talks about the price of OnePlus 6 in India. Here is the leaked pricing of the phone.
|64GB Variant||128 GB Variant||256 GB Variant|
|Rs. 33,999 – 36,999||Rs. 38,999 – 42,999||Rs. 44,999 – 48,999|
The leak also suggests that apart from the OnePlus 6 that will bear a serial number A6003, OnePlus will also launch OnePlus Bullets Wireless earbuds, pricing of which is not yet been confirmed.
OnePlus 6 Design and Display
In terms of design, OnePlus 6 may not have too many surprises in the stores. Keeping aside the leaks the phone may look like many other phones available in the market right now. The phone will have dual rear cameras at the back along with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

There will be a red colored alert slider that we have gotten used to in the previous generation phones and pixel phones recently. This slider will also double up as “slide to focus” allowing users to adjust the camera focus.
In terms of design, we know that the 6 will have a near bezel-less 6.28-inch 2280 x 1080 display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. It will have the biggest display on a OnePlus device in the same body size. The company has also confirmed that the phone will come with a 90% screen-to-body ratio.
While so much has been spoken about the notch, Carl Pei from OnePlus has clearly stated that users need to “Learn to love the notch”. While the notch will be there, it will be smaller in size as compared to the iPhone X.

Apart from the notch, that maximizes the display, the phone will also come with gestures to control the smartphone, an idea again borrowed from iPhone X. Another feature that Mr. Pei. himself leaked is that users will be able to ‘hide’ the notch on OnePlus 6. This sounds quite similar to the solution from the recently launched Huawei P20 Pro which allows the users to black out the ‘horns’ beside the notch letting users hide it.
OnePlus 6 Camera and Battery
A few leaked specifications of OnePlus 6 suggests that the phone will come with a vertically mounted, dual camera with 20MP and 16MP sensors (f/1.7). The camera setup seems to be same as the OnePlus 5T. We can expect a bump in terms of the front camera which may be a 20-megapixel f/2.0 shooter instead of a 16 megapixel the 5T.

The OnePlus 6 will not support wireless charging since Dash charge is not compatible with wireless charging. Another thing worth noticing is that almost all the specifications match with OPPO’s R15, however, Mr. Pei has specifically mentioned that the phone won’t look like the latest OPPO phone. And yes, OnePlus will retain the headphone jack, if that matters to you still.
More OnePlus 6 Leaks and News
Apart from other things, few leaks suggest that like the OnePlus 5T Star War edition, a Red colored OnePlus 6 Avengers edition may also be in works. It is touted that the OnePlus 6 Premium version will be the Avengers edition.
The latest Avengers: Infinity War movie is set for a release on 27th April and the phone will launch a few days later on 5th May along with other regular variants.
