Asus has introduced two new smartphones under the Zenfone series through an online launch event. While the Asus Zenfone 8 offers flagship-level specifications in a rather small package, the 8 Flip comes with the flippable primary camera setup as was earlier seen on the Zenfone 7 series.
Asus Zenfone 8
The Zenfone 8 features a 5.9-inch AMOLED screen (three big cheers for small screen enthusiasts) with a resolution of 2400×1800 pixels. The primary camera on the device is a dual-lens setup (64MP + 12MP ultrawide). There is no telephoto lens. The front camera is a 12MP shooter sitting snugly in a punch hole notch.
The device is powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor. The smartphone comes with up to 16GB RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. With a 4,000mAh battery, the device supports 5G networks. The device misses out on wireless charging but offers water and dust resistance.
Asus Zenfone 8 Flip
This device may be termed as the true successor of the Zenfone 7 series since the same flip camera setup is carried forward from the predecessor. As a result, there is no dedicated selfie camera since the primary camera flips above the phone to double as a front shooter. The benefit? No ugly notch, and an additional 8MP lens offering 3x optical zoom.
The device comes with a bigger 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2400×1800 pixels. It is powered by the same Snapdragon 888 chipset and comes with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The bigger display also gets a bigger battery – 5,000mAh. There is no wireless charging here as well, but this one also misses out on the IP rating for water and dust resistance.
Pricing and availability
The Zenfone 8 starts from €599 (₹53,200 approx.) for the base variant. Its Flip counterpart begins selling at €799 (₹71,000 approx.).
