Amazon has announced a refresh for its Echo Show 5 and Echo Show 8 smart display devices. A special edition for kids is also introduced with the smaller variant. For the uninitiated, the Echo range of smart display devices combines the Alexa-based features of Echo smart speakers with an additional touchscreen display for content consumption.
Amazon Echo Show 8
The main upgrade from the first-gen variant is the bump in the camera pixels from 1MP to 13MP. The camera can digitally pan and zoom to follow people as they move around, thereby ensuring their faces are always in view. Processor and internal audio also get an update.
The device can also be used as a security camera, and there are physical shutters in front of the camera lens if and when one gets paranoid about their privacy.
Amazon Echo Show 5
Here too, the camera pixels are doubled from its predecessor to 2MP. It can also double as a security camera and comes with a physical shutter. It is also available in Deep Sea Blue colour.
Amazon Echo Show 5 Kids
The Kids edition adapts a vibrant colour scheme according to the target audience. The type of content that can be consumed is limited, and the interface is customizable.

Preorders are open for all three variants. Shipping is scheduled for next month. The Show 8 costs $129.99 (₹9,500 approx.). The Show 5 is priced at $84.99 (₹6,200 approx.) and the Kids edition is available for $94.99 (₹7,000 approx.).
