Okay, so a lot of brands have claimed to have made a “Bezel-less phone” or a “True Bezel-less phone”. However, only a few of them are actually are Bezel-less and just one or two of them have actually landed in the mainstream. Sharp Aquos Crystal was one and Sharp Corner R is another. While the Corner R may not hit the market, Mi Mix definitely intends to.

The latest smartphone from Xiaomi looks straight out of a sci-fi movie and boasts a whopping 91.3 percent screen-to-body ratio. In our previous article, we did talk about a bezel-less phone being developed by Xiaomi, but even we are surprised with highest screen-to-body ratio we’ve ever seen. This phone definitely tells you that so much innovation can be done with the very familiar form factor.

Mi Mix Specifications

Thanks to its bezel-less display with curved corners, the phone looks really similar to any 5.5-inches smartphone.  The display comes with a resolution of 2040×1080 and houses on-screen navigation buttons, a first for Xiaomi.

With such design, it is quite obvious that the sensors on the phone would need to be re-adjusted or changed altogether. The proximity sensor has been replaced by ultrasound, the earpiece has been replaced with a piezoelectric speaker that uses the metal frame to generate sound, and the front-facing camera is relocated to the bottom.

The Mi Mix has all the hardware crammed into it that one could ever ask for. It comes with the latest 2.35GHz Snapdragon 821,4 GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The back panel of this handset and its side buttons are made out of ceramic, which adds class to the already amazing phone. It will be priced at $516 or CNY 3499.

There is another variant also available that comes with 6GB RAM and 256GB storage option and if a ceramic back wasn’t enough, this one will come with 18-karat gold accents around the camera and fingerprint sensor. This Mi Mix 18K version will be priced at $590 or RMB 3999.

A 4400mAh battery will power the phone. It also houses 16 megapixels with phase-detect autofocus and NFC and a rear fingerprint reader is present on both versions.

For all the people who’ve been complaining that Xiaomi copies Apple and Samsung’ design, the Mi Mix is a marvel which is truly original, eye-catching yet practical. Unfortunately, the phone will not be released in international markets and is said to launch on November 4th in China.
